September: A Summer of Fine-Tuning, and Staying Ahead of the Weather
It was a dry summer at Castleknock, and it kept the greenkeeping team busy. Eight sprinklers were replaced across fairways and tee boxes to keep the course in shape through the driest stretch, and bunkers were topped up with sand greenside on every hole. Greens ran at an average of 9.7 on the stimp, as true and consistent as they’ve been all season.
Rain has picked up again over the last few weeks, and the focus has shifted with it. The same attention from our greenkeeping team which got the course through a dry summer is what keeps it playable as the weather turns. It’s a big part of why Castleknock holds up so well through winter too. There are no fairway mats here, and no temporary greens either. What you play in December is the same course you play in July.
The course itself is built for this. Parkland design, mature tree cover and solid drainage mean the ground handles the rain that would leave a lesser course waterlogged.
If you’ve been holding off on a game, this is your sign to book a tee time. And when you’re done, The Vue is waiting for your group.
